INTERFAITH WEEK -- February 6-12, 2006 -- "Celebrating our Spiritualities"

Salt Lake City -- Two weeks from now on Monday, February 6, 2006, the Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable will hold a press conference at the University of Utah Interfaith Chapel to mark the beginning of Interfaith Week, to be held in Utah this year from Monday, February 6 through and including Sunday, February 12, 2006.

At the press conference, a proclamation by Salt Lake Mayor Rocky Anderson will be read to launch Interfaith Week. This will be followed by a short discussion by members from various faith communities about why Interfaith Week benefits all the citizens of Utah, and celebrates this year's Interfaith Week Theme of "Celebrating our Spiritualities."

Interfaith Week will conclude the following Sunday night, February 12th, with the 5th Annual "Tribute to the Human Spirit" -- a free, public concert to be held at the Cathedral of the Madeleine at 8:00 p.m. at which Governor Huntsman will read a proclamation from the State of Utah.

At the musical tribute, volunteers from various faith communities will share their collective talents in dance, drumming, prayer, and song. This year's program will offer presentations that include: an African Drum and Dancer; an invocation from a Roman Catholic priest; an Islamic Call to Prayer; a Blessing from a Ute Tribal Shaman; the Interfaith Mass Choir from the Rock Canyon Assembly of God Church; a Blessing from the Hindu tradition; a Jewish Klezmer musical offering; a blessing from a Pagan elder; a Baha'i Blessing; the Greek Orthodox Church Dancers and Choir; a Gospel rapper and Mama's Faith Temple Choir; Buddhist Drummers; and a benediction from an LDS Church official.

Chair of the Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable, Elaine Emmi, a Quaker, said: "This annual focus on the inherent cooperation that exists here in Utah among people of all faiths is cause for great celebration and we trust our fellow Utahns will join together in celebrating Interfaith Week."

Chair of Interfaith Week, Ivan Cendese from the Episcopal Diocese, noted: "This year we see a wide variety of peoples gathering together again to celebrate the 2002 Olympic spirit that changed Utah so positively when the world came to our door. We trust people of all faiths will find inspiration in this spirit that has become the hallmark of the interfaith work here."

The Salt Lake Interfaith Roundtable (SLIR) which is sponsoring the event, came into being during preparation for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games whose original motto was "to light the fire within."

SLIR was formed to minister to the visiting Olympic athletes, and has expanded the interfaith dialogue here in Utah since 2002.

Tickets for this free musical concert need to be secured in order to insure a seat at the event. To obtain tickets please contact Sister Bridget Clare McKeever who can be reached at: 801-328-8641 or Sr.bridgetclare@dioslc.org.

The press conference will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 6th at the University of Utah Interfaith Chapel, 120 South Ft. Douglas Boulevard, Salt Lake. A lunch for members of the Interfaith community will follow.
