Secrets of Mary Magdalene: Film screenings, 1 p.m., 2 p.m.
Discussion, 3 p.m.

Join us for a Sunday afternoon with the mysterious Mary Magdalene as
Interfaith Week in Utah begins (Feb. 4-11, 2007). A new book, Secrets of
Mary Magdalene, will be discussed by contributor, Maxine Hanks, after the
DVD screenings (3 pm).

Secrets of Mary Magdalene considers diverse views and deeper meanings of
the role played by this female disciple in early Christianity. The book
features 30 contributors--scholars, theologians, writers and artists.
Together, they demystify the woman who lies at the heart of
Christianity's emergence, and its controversies.

The DVD contains a 45-min. documentary on Magdalene, and a 45-min.
roundtable with seven experts--Elaine Pagels, Jane Schaberg, Susan
Haskins, Dierdre Good, Diane Apostolos-Cappadona, Katherine Kurs, and
Lisa Bellevie. They engage multiple views of Magdalene and her place in
the Christian story.

Who was Mary Magdalene? Why are we fascinated by her? From her portrayal
in paintings, books, films and pop culture, to her role in scripture,
religion, theology, legend and myth, Mary Magdalene may be the most
popular and complex symbol for beliefs about women in Christian
religion.
